Performance for the Nursing & Assisted Living Homes:
Upon my retirement from the United States Postal Service, I had thought about the possiblility of performing for the cruise ship lines. I began arranging for the various combinations of bands in which one might encounter aboard ship after doing an extensive research project into the business. "What a Difference a Day Made": Just like the song, one day made a very large difference in my life. While working in my woodshop, I had a piece of wood kick back through my table saw and draw my fingers through the blade. By the grace of God, I only lost the tip of my middle finger and was able to have my index finger repaired sufficiently.
I was required to do a vast amount of physical therapy to restore most of the movement to my right hand. It was during this period that I met my wife, Monique, while coming out of my physical therapist's office. Monique is in the medical business and just happened to "be in the neighborhood". I knew that being on the road (or the sea) wouldn't work after meeting her.
I settled into private teaching and substituting for the Jefferson County School System. My wife, Monique, made the statement that I was always in a better mood after a performance than post public school system. Although I love the children, I decided that I would be happier with my life if I were to choose a different vocation other than public school teaching. I had done a performance at Villa Manor where my Father-in-Law lives and their activities director, Jeannie Tierney, suggested that I contact other activity directors. I asked her: "Are there enough nursing/assisted living homes to make it worthwhile?" She just rolled her eyes and the rest is "history", I guess.
Today, I'm performing four to five shows per week on the average in the Front Range area. I love performing for our senior citizens and having the opportunity to do all of the songs from the past. I tell them that my mother "trained-me-up" for this job as she and I used to get together frequently to play piano and guitar and sing.
My show consists of using modern MIDI (computer) techniques to allow for a full sound while being able to come into an establishment as a single performer. I change the repetoir of my show and theme each month and track each client so that I'm musically fresh for each return visit. My style? Check out my CD: AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'! This CD is a representation of my live show. If you're an activity director and would like to have variety and a professional show for your residents, please call me for more details and pricing.
